Apesar de ter dois empregos e de ser esposa e mãe, Randi Ketchum de 36 anos tinha 29 anos quando se formou. No dia em que Randi recebeu o diploma da universidade, os pais e o filho assistiram inclusive a esse momento especial.
Randi sentia-se empolgadíssima e orgulhosa por iniciar uma nova carreira de professora e contribuir para o bem-estar da sua família. Mas, quando voltou a casa, encontrou um bilhete do marido, que dizia que tinha levado as roupas todas e que não voltava.

Numa manhã, Randi acordou (em termos literais e figurativos), colocou os pés no chão, preparou o pequeno-almoço e, basicamente, fez tudo o que sempre fazia. Usou a rotina para se manter ocupada.
Depois de passar seis anos nas “forças armadas”, sentiu que estava de volta à instrução, como todos os bons soldados em situações difíceis.
Um pequeno passo depois do outro, foi assim que se recuperou. E nos sete anos que se passaram desde então, continuou a seguir em frente.
Conseguiu emprego como professora, fez mestrado em Educação e viu os seus filhos chegarem aos 12 e aos 7 anos.
No fundo, preferia nunca ter passado pelas dificuldades que passou, mas quando olha para trás, Randi sente-se contente pelo que aconteceu naquela época. As adversidades ajudaram-na a encontrar-se, a encontrar a sua voz. Tornou-se independente, confiante e forte, algo que espera ter ensinado aos seus filhos.
